End of Summer Update

The cicadas are buzzing, the sun is setting sooner, and Labor Day approaches; sadly, another summer has reached its end. So here's how the summer went for all things Fluker:

The kids have had a great summer- going swimming every day, riding bikes, playing in the woods, going to Charlestown Beach, catching crayfish in the stream, riding four wheelers, and generally just being kids.

We did a little traveling too. First we spent a long weekend in Ocean City and Bethany Beach. Nice weather but the water was freeeeezing. A couple of weeks later we, along with the Pollitts, made our annual trek down to Myrtle Beach. I really like the place we stay there, and the weather and water were wonderful. We collected almost 200 sharks teeth off the beach again, which the kids love doing. All in all it was a great time.

August is golf tournament time. Trey played in the Geneva Farms tournament and took 5th place, and then a week later played in the Chantilly tournament and took 2nd place. He played great and I was so proud of him!

Soccer practice started 2 weeks ago. He is playing for the Earthquakes coached by Andy Roberts who is a super nice guy. Last year they went undefeated, but this year is a "rebuilding year" as they have mostly 1st year players.

Last Thurs, Trey started school again. 2nd Grade!!! It seems like every year school starts earlier and earlier....

In other news, my summer membership with Krav Maga is almost up. I've really enjoyed the classes and would recommend Krav to anyone who wants to get in great shape and learn self defense. What I like: high intensity, lots of full force striking and hitting/kicking pads and focus mitts. What I don't like: very slow to introduce new techniques (at least at this level), other people in class are not particularly friendly, seems weak on the ground. I wish that we could incorporate some of the training methods from KM into my jujitsu classes- that would be awesome. My jujitsu starts back up the 2nd week of September so we'll see. Honestly, if my jujitsu wasn't free, and I wasn't so close to a brown belt, I'd probably stick with KM.

So there you have it- the Summer Update!
